The logo was drawn and designed by Fran, our founder. It speaks of where we are from and where we are heading: our values, our aims, our inspirations.
The form of our logo is found in mother nature: the shape of a water droplet and leaf tells of our connection to earth. We draw on the abundance of earth to water us, to feed us, to grow us. The Village People provides short-term food security and long-term food sustainability through the generosity of mother earth. We honour and thank her.
The rays of orange light remind us of two things: Sri Lanka’s sunshine smiles and goodness of her people; and of the spiritual light we live in, the spiritual light The Village People gathers in and under. The sun activates and unlocks the masculine energy within us: to do and to take action. We support people to activate and shape their own futures for themselves, their families and their communities through our sustainable projects.
The colour orange symbolises our hara: our creativity, our life force, our drive for The Village People to empower individuals and communities to flourish- in their own ways, according to their own traditions and paths. The orange colour echoes the lion found on the Sri Lankan flag- the lion’s roar of strength, of courage.
Of course, people are our focus: individuals and community. The Village People operates heart-to-heart, human-to-human. We stand together to provide communities the safe, sufficient and nutritious food to thrive, and the resources to access essential items. We stand in unity for better outcomes for the communities we work with.
The dots tracing the outline of the water droplet and leaf speak of our connectedness and of our template to grow, to expand. We have big hearts and big intentions. The style, also, is a gentle nod to Sri Lankan culture- to henna designs, to mandala art.
And lastly, there’s a quiet, hidden special guest: Luna. Wrapping herself around the sun, you’ll see a waxing crescent moon. She’s our building energy; the bringer of good intentions and open hearts for The Village People. She gives us balance: she’s the moon to our sun, the feminine to our masculine, the yin to our yang. With the love of our Luna goddess, The Village People stands in the flow of harmony and abundance.
With love,
Fran.
